This funding opportunity aims to improve prevention, risk identification, diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, self-management and long-term care for eligible chronic respiratory conditions in both paediatric and adult populations within community, primary care, or home settings.
This is a one-stage commissioned funding opportunity.
Applicants are encouraged to consider the stakeholder-informed priorities identified through the HERON project (Health Technology for Chronic Respiratory Disease: Exploring and Mapping Unmet Needs) priority-setting partnership, conducted by the NIHR HRC in Community Healthcare. These priorities are detailed in the 'Appendix' tab and are intended to help applicants align proposed innovations with areas of greatest unmet need.
Technologies targeting enhanced diagnosis in primary care are strongly encouraged to engage with the Simple Lung Test Target Product Profile (TPP) generated by Asthma+Lung UK/LifeArc, and indicate how their innovation aligns with the outlined requirements.
Awards made under FAST September 2026 may receive between £50k to £100k of funding for 6 to 12 months. Projects are expected to start on 1 January or 1 February 2027.
