Nominations open for the 2009 Genesis Conference Awards

London First are pleased to annouce that nominations for the Genesis Conference Awards can now be submitted. The awards will be presented at the inaugural Genesis Awards Dinner, sponsored by UK Trade & Investment.

Genesis Awards Nominations

Purpose of the Awards:

To recognise and highlight UK success in biotech, thereby promoting the
UK to overseas markets, building investor confidence in the sector and
keeping the sector’s success in the forefront of politicians’ minds.

What awards are there?

UK Trade & Investment, as headline sponsors of the awards dinner on
December 10th, are presenting two awards; categories are yet to be

Genesis Awards:

The primary aim is to celebrate those that have achieved most in
demonstrating the UK’s strengths in biotechnology and thereby enhancing
the sector’s reputation.

Award 1: Technology Transfer Office of the Year: recognising that the
success of UK plc is in converting excellence in research and innovation
into commercial opportunity and delivery in life sciences. To this end
we would expect the winners to have demonstrated one or more of the
following: 

  1. Excellence in the management of the interface between their
    institution and private sector partners
  2. Execution of innovative deal(s) to transfer technology to the
    private sector for development
  3. Development of approaches to engaging and supporting their
    academic staff in furthering thedevelopment of their intellectual
    property
  4. Creation of significant value for their institution

Award 2: Company Newsflow of the Year: In keeping with the aim of the
awards, this is to recognise those companies that have made significant
progress AND have promoted that progress effectively and thus performing
as ambassadors of the UK life science sector. It would be expected that
the winners of this award would have reported one or more of the
following: 

  1. Significant product development
  2. Successful financing
  3. Significant licensing, alliance or M&A deal(s)
  4. Outstanding business growth
